Operator Training Simulator (OTS) Best Practices Survey
Posted on 11:34 by Unknown
Please take a few minute to take this survey to help OTS!
NAMUR, ARC Advisory Group and the US Department of Energy’s AVESTAR Center are conducting a survey to develop a better understanding of what manufacturers, operations, and executives are doing regarding the implementation, deployment and benefits from using Operator Training Simulators (OTS).
The survey examines OTS motives, benefits, challenges and strategies being used for training manufacturing control room and field operators. The questionnaire is being used to identify best practices, benefits and other factors about operator training simulators.
Respondents can view preliminary results immediately after they take the survey, and all will receive a FREE excerpt of the results after the research is completed.
Privacy Concerns: Individual responses will be considered confidential and only aggregate information will be reported.
If you have questions about the survey, please contact:

Apps, Cloud Top Mobile Priorities (Yankee Group)
Great post by Maryanne - it begs the question, what are your priorities with simulation software when it comes to cloud and mobile use?

From Hydrocarbon Processing: Valero looks to boost refinery processing capacity for light, sweet crudes
Posted on 09:59 by Unknown
"Valero said it was spending about $500 million for new equipment at its refineries in Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas, to increase their light, sweet crude refining capacity by a combined 160,000 bpd. The company was also planning to ship more crude oil from Texas to its refinery in Quebec City," Read the full article here
To me, the most telling quote is "Recent drilling innovations, including hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, have helped ExxonMobil and its competitors develop oil fields once thought unprofitable...."

So while traditional sources of oil are getting heavier and heavier, causing processing issues, it seems that fracking is producing the standard light, sweet crude that the refineries were built for.
Where do you think the market will be in the future? Relying on heavy crudes or light, sweet crude from fracking?
ACA.HF - The safer way to measure hydrofluoric acid (HF) in a refinery
Posted on 05:30 by Unknown
ACA.HF is an Invensys Operations Management solution that received a breakthrough product of the year award from Process Magazine. This solution tests the level of hydrofluoric acid (HF) in a refinery.
For a number of years, the only way to learn the level of HF was manual sampling. Knowing the level of HF is essential for refinery operation, for both profitability and safety. However, it can also be incredibly dangerous. In 2000, FTNIR developed a solution to eliminate manual sampling, but it is very expensive. ACA.HF provides the same results but at less than half the cost of FTNIR.
